Professor Richard Susskind OBE is an author, speaker, and independent adviser to major professional firms and to national governments. Having worked on legal technology for over 30 years, his main area of expertise is the future of professional service and, in particular, the way in which the IT and the Internet are changing the work of lawyers.
In 2011, Richard succeeded Lord Saville as President of the Society for Computers and Law. In the same year he became Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Oxford Internet Institute (OII) at Oxford University. Since 2009, he has also been a Visiting Professor in Internet Studies at the OII.
A pioneer in the field of information technology and law, Richard has been the IT Adviser to the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales since 1998. He is the first Honorary Professor of Gresham College in London and the co-founder of the Centre for Law, Computers and Technology at the Law School of the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow.
He has written and edited numerous best-selling books, including “The End of Lawyers Rethinking the Nature of Legal Services” (2008), “Tomorrow’s Lawyers” (2013), and most recently, co-authored with Daniel Susskind, “The Future of the Professions: How Technology Will Transform the Work of Human Experts” (2015). Having written around 150 columns for The Times, his work has been translated into 10 languages.
